Humidifier & Dehumidifier Installation

Dealing with dry skin or musty smells at home? We install humidifiers and dehumidifiers to balance your indoor air quality effectively.

Have you noticed dry skin, persistent musty smells, or foggy windows in your home? These are signs that your indoor air quality might be off-balance, and it's not something to ignore. Mankato Heating & Cooling is ready to help with professional humidifier and dehumidifier installation across South-Central Minnesota.

Warning Signs / Symptoms

Persistent Dry Air

Constant dryness in your throat and skin, alongside cracking wooden furniture, indicates a lack of moisture in your home's air. This situation is often due to inefficient or absent humidification systems, which can lead to health issues and damage to your home's interiors.

Musty Odors

A persistent musty smell, especially in basements or bathrooms, suggests high humidity levels that promote mold and mildew growth. These conditions are harmful to health and can lead to structural damage if not addressed.

Foggy Windows

When condensation forms on your windows, particularly during colder months, it's a sign of excess indoor humidity. This can cause mold growth and damage to window frames, leading to costly repairs.

Static Electricity

Frequent static shocks when touching electronics or metal objects indicate excessively dry indoor air. This is common during winter when heating systems are running and can damage sensitive electronics.

Increased Energy Bills

A spike in energy bills without a clear reason may result from your heating system overworking in dry air or cooling systems struggling with high humidity. This inefficiency leads to higher costs and potential system wear.

Common Causes

Inadequate Existing Systems

Many older homes in South-Central Minnesota lack integrated humidification or dehumidification systems. Installing modern solutions requires evaluating your current HVAC setup for optimal integration.

Climate Challenges

The region's climate swings from cold, dry winters to humid summers, necessitating adaptable indoor air quality solutions. Professional installation ensures seamless seasonal adjustments, maintaining optimal humidity all year.

Poor Ventilation

Inadequate ventilation in homes traps moisture and pollutants, worsening humidity problems. Upgrading ventilation systems can help manage humidity levels effectively.

DIY Equipment Limitations

Portable humidifiers and dehumidifiers often can't manage whole-home humidity effectively. Professional installation of comprehensive systems provides consistent humidity control.

Humidifier & Dehumidifier Installation questions

Why is my house so dry in the winter?
Cold Minnesota air holds very little moisture, and heating it drops the relative humidity further. That is what causes static shocks, dry skin, cracked woodwork, and morning sore throats. A whole-home humidifier adds moisture to the air as it circulates.
What humidity level should I keep in the house?
Between 30 and 50 percent is the usual target. Too low is uncomfortable and hard on woodwork. Too high in winter causes condensation on windows and can lead to mold. We set the control for your home and show you how to adjust it.
Do I need a humidifier or a dehumidifier?
Most Minnesota homes need a humidifier in winter. Homes with damp basements or muggy summers often need a dehumidifier as well. If you are seeing both problems in different seasons, that is normal here and we can address both.
Does a whole-home unit beat a portable one?
For treating the entire house, yes. A whole-home unit works through your ductwork, runs automatically off a humidistat, and does not need refilling. Portables are fine for a single room.
How much maintenance does a humidifier need?
Usually an annual pad or filter change and a check of the water panel and drain. We cover it during your regular heating maintenance visit so it does not become a separate trip.
