Is your home plagued by persistent musty odors or excessive dust buildup? Are allergy symptoms causing discomfort for you and your family? These issues indicate that your air purification and filtration system might not be functioning efficiently. At Mankato Heating & Cooling, we understand the importance of clean air and are ready to help restore your home's air quality.

Warning Signs / Symptoms

Persistent Musty Odors

A musty or stale smell lingering in your home, even after cleaning, suggests poor air circulation. This can lead to mold growth and worsen respiratory issues for sensitive individuals.

Increased Allergy Symptoms

If you or your family members experience heightened allergy symptoms indoors, your air filtration system might be failing to remove allergens effectively. This can lead to chronic discomfort and potential health problems.

Excessive Dust Accumulation

Noticing that dust settles faster than you can clean it? This could mean your air filters aren't capturing fine particles, allowing them to recirculate and potentially reduce HVAC efficiency.

Unusual Humidity Levels

Feeling too dry or damp indoors can damage comfort and potentially harm wooden furniture or floors. Malfunctioning air purifiers might not be maintaining optimal humidity, leading to structural issues and higher energy bills.

Common Causes

Clogged or Outdated Filters

Filters that aren't replaced regularly can become clogged, reducing airflow and filtration efficiency. Replacing them with appropriate types ensures optimal air quality.

Inadequate System Design

Poorly designed HVAC systems can circulate air inefficiently, leading to stagnant areas. We assess and recommend improvements or upgrades to enhance air distribution.

South-Central Minnesota's Humidity Fluctuations

The region's humidity variations can encourage mold and bacterial growth in filters. Installing dehumidifiers or specialized air purifiers helps maintain balanced humidity and cleaner air.

Air Purifier & Filtration questions

Do air purifiers actually help with allergies?
A whole-home filtration system helps by capturing more of the dust, pollen, and dander moving through your ductwork than a basic filter does. It works on the air your system circulates, so it treats the whole house rather than one room.
What is MERV and what rating do I need?
MERV measures how much a filter captures. Higher is not automatically better, because a filter that is too restrictive chokes airflow and strains the blower. We match the filter to what your system can actually handle.
How often should I change my filter?
A one inch filter usually needs changing every one to three months. A thicker media filter can go six months to a year. Homes with pets or ongoing construction need changes more often. We will tell you the interval for your setup.
Will an air purifier help with cooking and pet odors?
Filtration captures particles, which handles dust and dander well. Odors and gases need different media, such as activated carbon or a UV system. We will tell you honestly which one fits the problem you are describing.
Can this be added to my existing system?
Usually yes. Most whole-home filtration and purification equipment installs into your existing ductwork. We check your blower capacity and duct layout first to make sure the system can handle it.
