Is your heater making unusual noises or failing to keep your home warm? Have you noticed your energy bills climbing unexpectedly? These issues are more than just minor annoyances—they're signs your heating system needs professional attention. Mankato Heating & Cooling is ready to help ensure your system runs efficiently and keeps your home comfortable.

Warning Signs / Symptoms

Uneven Heating

Feeling cold spots in some rooms while others are too warm can indicate ductwork problems or a failing blower motor. This imbalance often leads to higher energy costs and discomfort in your home.

Strange Noises

Rattling, banging, or squealing noises from your furnace suggest issues like loose components or a failing motor. Ignoring these sounds can lead to more severe damage or a complete system breakdown.

Frequent Cycling

If your system turns on and off more often than usual, struggling to maintain the set temperature, it might be due to thermostat issues or improper airflow. Unresolved, it could reduce your system's lifespan.

Increase in Energy Bills

A sudden rise in heating costs without a change in usage suggests your system is working harder than necessary. Often, this is due to components that need cleaning or tuning.

Weak Airflow

Weak airflow from vents can indicate a clogged filter, blocked ducts, or blower fan issues, causing your system to overwork and leading to premature wear and higher energy costs.

Common Causes

Clogged Air Filters

Dust and debris accumulate in air filters over time, restricting airflow and making your system work harder. Replacing or cleaning filters is an easy way to boost efficiency and improve air quality.

Thermostat Malfunctions

A faulty thermostat can cause erratic temperature control and frequent cycling. Calibrating or replacing it ensures consistent comfort and efficiency.

Ignition or Pilot Control Problems

Problems with the ignition or pilot can prevent your furnace from producing heat, leaving you in the cold. A professional tune-up addresses these issues, ensuring safe operation.

Ductwork Leaks

Leaky ducts, especially in older homes, lead to significant heat loss and uneven heating. Sealing these leaks improves system efficiency and home comfort.

Blower Motor Wear

The blower motor pushes warm air through your home, and over time, it can wear out, reducing airflow. Regular maintenance identifies wear early, allowing for timely repairs.

Heating Maintenance & Tune-Up questions

When should I have my furnace serviced?
Fall, before the first hard freeze. A tune-up before the heating season catches a weak ignitor or a dirty flame sensor while it is still a small fix instead of a no-heat call in January.
What does a furnace tune-up include?
We clean and test the flame sensor, check the ignitor, inspect the heat exchanger, test safety switches, check gas pressure and the burner flame, replace or check the filter, and confirm the blower is moving the air it should. You get a written summary of what we found.
Does annual maintenance keep my warranty valid?
In most cases yes. Manufacturers commonly require documented annual maintenance for the parts warranty to stay in force. We leave you a record of every visit so you have the documentation if you ever need it.
Will a tune-up lower my heating bill?
It helps. A dirty burner and a clogged filter both make the furnace work harder for the same heat. Maintenance restores the efficiency the unit was designed for, though it cannot make an old furnace behave like a new one.
Do you have a plan that covers this?
Yes. Our membership plan starts at $29 a month and includes annual equipment maintenance. Call 507-299-0243 and we will explain what it covers.
